On June 26th we officially launched HIBALL with the virtual 4th BigBrain Workshop. Out distinguished guests spoke about current work as well as the future of the BigBrain. The recordings are now available for viewing.

Reaching data size at the Petabyte scale, HIBALL addresses Big Data challenges. These infrastructure development efforts will be aligned with the developments of the Human Brain Project and the Canadian Healthy Brains for Healthy Lives (HBHL) program to maximize compatibility with the international initiatives.

HBHL's annual Research Day is designed to showcase the research of trainees (graduate students and postdoctoral fellows) who are working in areas related to HBHL's goals and priorities.

Neural computation is the product of two optimization procedures: natural selection and learning in the individual's lifetime. But, identifying what the neocortex has been optimized for, given its repeated circuit motifs and complex relationship to behaviour, is very challenging.

"Der Startschuss ist gefallen: Das deutsch-kanadische Helmholtz International BigBrain Analytics and Learning Laboratory (HIBALL) nimmt seine Arbeit auf. This pre-OHBM event is dedicated to the formal inauguration of HIBALL. The workshop will be comprised of invited talks covering recent work on the BigBrain data. A poster session will facilitate in-depth discussion and opportunity for young researchers to present their work.
